German National Public Radio interview with Allen AME Church
We were honored and blessed to have Doris Simon a journalist from Germany National Public Radio reach out to us for an interview. She asked questions about our political views and important issues that we are faced with today. The interview will air in Germany. It was a pleasure having her and we welcomed her to come back to see us again!

Moving Forward High School Program
The second session of “Moving Forward” concluded at Allen AME Church on Monday, February 26th at 6:00 pm. Six students were recognized for completing the program with definite plans as they move forward to the next step in their post high-school lives. Five will be heading to college in the fall, and one has enlisted in the United States Air Force, and will be leaving for active duty in July. Ms. Christle Foster, Executive Director of TRIO Programs at Chesapeake College, and Rev. Michele Wayman met with the participating high school seniors and their parents every other Monday from September through February. They covered topics such as career interest surveys, college applications, college essays, resumes, reference letters, FAFSA and MDCAP financial forms, scholarship applications, and more. The closing session included a scrumptious family-style dinner prepared by Mrs. Norma Pinkney. Following dinner, there was a panel discussion with four Chesapeake College students and Dr. LaSella Hall, Director of Student Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Program participants received gifts for their commitment in completing the course.

Black History Month Celebration
As a part of our Black History Month Celebration service, Allen AME Church was delighted to surprise Dr. Hilliard Gardner and his Vet Tech, Mrs. Karen Wright with a timely and well-deserved recognition of their work, as well as their community, and church support for others. Dr. Gardner is a graduate of Moton High School in Easton, MD, Maryland State College (now UMES) in Princess Anne, MD, and Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) School of Veterinary Medicine. After several federal jobs in the veterinary field, Dr. Gardner stepped out on faith and opened his veterinary clinic in 1978. It is located in Hillsboro, MD, where it has remained in our community during its 46 years of operation.
Working right beside Dr. Gardner for all 46 years was his Vet Tech, Mrs. Karen Wright, affectionally known as Kay. Kay has always loved animals and has always loved her work with Dr. Gardner. She has been a faithful and focused employee and friend to Dr. Gardner, his family, and his customers. She is a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and member of Allen AME Church. Allen loves both of them and is grateful for the opportunity to have recognized them for their service to God and to his creations, both mankind and animals!

Moving Forward – A High-School Transition Program
Moving Forward – A High-School Transition Program” kicked off August 13, 2002 with a Paint Party that was open to the community and surrounding churches as a means of sharing the goal of the program. The goal of Moving Forward was simply to assist high school juniors, seniors, and young adults up to age 21 with planning their “next step” after high school graduation. The topics we covered were … Who do I want to be?, What college do I want to attend?, The college application process, The FAFSA, MDCAP, and Scholarship Application process, College reference letters and College essays, Financing college, Accepted – Now What?, How do I help my child prepare for college?, and Understanding college support systems.
Our formal 14 bi-weekly sessions began September 26, 2022 and ended on March 27, 2023. We started with 10 student participants. Six students completed the program. Four of the six are graduating seniors from Caroline and Talbot counties. All six of them are accepted into college(s), offered financial packages, and are awaiting scholarship information from various organizations. The two juniors received a wealth of information and plan to continue the program in the fall.
With God’s guidance and direction, the adults who made this program a successful reality are Christle Foster. Norma Pinkney, and Michele Wayman. To God Be the Glory!
